A "Created vs Resolved" chart in Jira is a graphical representation that shows the balance between the number of issues created and the number of issues resolved over a specific period of time. This chart is valuable for Agile teams and project managers to monitor the overall progress and performance of a project or a Jira board.

Here's how to create and interpret a "Created vs. Resolved" chart in Jira:

Creating a Created vs. Resolved Chart:

Navigate to the Jira project or board: Log in to your Jira instance, go to the desired project or board for which you want to generate the chart.

Access the Reports section: Depending on your Jira version and configuration, you may find a "Reports" or "Dashboards" section in the project or board's sidebar.

Select "Created vs. Resolved" chart: In the Reports section, locate and select the "Created vs. Resolved" chart option. This will open the chart configuration.

Configure the chart:

  • Choose the project or filter you want to analyze.
  • Specify the time frame for which you want to generate the chart, such as a specific date range, last 7 days, last 30 days, etc.
  • Set other optional parameters, such as the resolution field to consider (e.g., "Done" or "Resolved").
  • Generate the chart: Once you've configured the chart to your preferences, click the "Generate" or "Create" button to generate the "Created vs. Resolved" chart.

Interpreting a Created vs. Resolved Chart:

A "Created vs. Resolved" chart typically includes the following components:

Created Issues: This line or bar represents the cumulative number of issues created over time.

Resolved Issues: This line or bar represents the cumulative number of issues that have been resolved or marked as "Done" over the same time frame.

X-Axis: The horizontal axis represents time, with the time intervals specified in the chart's configuration (e.g., days, weeks, months).

Y-Axis: The vertical axis represents the total count of issues.

Interpretation:

  • When the "Created" line is above the "Resolved" line, it indicates that more issues have been created than resolved during that period, which might be an indication that the workload is increasing.
  • When the "Resolved" line is above the "Created" line, it suggests that the team is successfully closing issues and that the workload is decreasing.
  • If the two lines are roughly parallel, it indicates that the rate of issue creation and issue resolution is relatively balanced.
  • Analyzing the trends in this chart can help teams assess their capacity to handle work and make informed decisions about sprint planning, team performance, and workload management.
  • The "Created vs. Resolved" chart provides a straightforward way to track the overall health and efficiency of your team's work in Jira and ensure that you are keeping up with incoming task
